Stolen Innocence tells the story of Elissa Wall, a former member of the fundamentalist Later Day Saints religion, and her life as a member of a polygamous sect. Beginning with her earliest memories, the book takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster as Ellisa rips the lid of secrecy off life as a practicing member of a FLDS sect by recalling in rich detail her tumultuous life starting with a new mother added to her family, loosing family members, her forced marriage at 14, her struggle to survive life as a young, unprepared and often brutalized bride to her escape from the life and the trial of Warren Jeffs.
The novel is full of suspense as Elissa struggles with questions about her religion, the proclamations of the prophet and the devastating losses she experiences through the years. She also showcases her newfound strength as she plays a key role in the trial and conviction of self-proclaimed prophet Warren Jeffs, a man she once held in the highest regard. Readers are certain to find themselves alternating between crying and cheering as Elissa depicts the journey from her turbulent old life to her happier new one.
