If you love page turners then you will love this book. This is the kind of book that you stay up all night reading, a science fiction book about invaders who come and take over human bodies. The minds of these hosts take the place of the human soul, but leaves the human body intact, so it appears that the humans life is unchanged. These hosts have invaded most people and there are only a few humans who have escaped.
The story’s main character, Melanie is one of the only remaining real humans until she is captured, and believes that life as she knows it is over. The invading soul called “wanderer” has been prepped. He has been schooled as to what to expect when invading a body. He knows that the memories will be vivid, that there will be strong emotions, so the conflict doesn’t lie here. Instead the conflict begins when he realizes that the former tenant is not willing to leave her body, and he doesn’t really know how to deal with this “little problem.”
Stephenie Meyer does a good job of making us think about what humanity really is. This is a book full of suspense mixed in with a little romance. The author has portrayed the invaders as relatively good creatures, seeking a non violent life, and always looking for the greater good, except for the fact that they invade other beings lives. So the reader is faced with making his own decision as to whether the invaders are good, bad or somewhere in between.
